Obverse Description	The obverse shows a very abstracted rendering of Apollo’s head ultimately derived from the Philippus. It mainly comprises of a wreath and hairlocks, bisected by a hair bar. The hollow crescents on the right are hair curls.
Reverse Description	The reverse shows the remnants of the horse drawn biga and Charioteer from the Philippus. The horse faces left, and has a large pellet below, and a pellet field above. The object on the right that looks like and eye is the chariot wheel from the biga.

The Hod Hill staters were struck in bronze by the Durotriges after they ran out of both gold and silver. They aren’t quite the end of Durotrigen coinage, but they are the last struck coins. Staters produced after this were cast with much simpler designs.

This coin was a gift from Commander R. P. Mack (author of “Coinage of Ancient Britain”) to Major C. W. Lister, whose collection was one of the first added to the Celtic Coin Index.
